PETRONAS AWARDS MALAYSIAN SHIPPING AGENCIES USD52 MILLION FREIGHT FORWARDING AND ASSOCIATED SERVICES CONTRACT FOR RAPID PROJECT

Kuala Lumpur, February 22, 2016 – Malaysia’s national oil and gas company, Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS), through its subsidiary under the PETRONAS Group, PRPC Utilities and Facilities Sdn. Bhd. (PRPC UF), has awarded Malaysian Shipping Agencies (MSA) a contract for the Provision of Freight Forwarding and Associated Services for PETRONAS’ Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development (RAPID) project in Pengerang, Johor.  The contract, awarded on 10 February 2016 is valid for three (3) years, with at an estimated value of USD52 million.  

MSA is a subsidiary of Konsortium Logistik Berhad (KLB), a member of DRB-HICOM Group and Malaysia’s leading integrated logistics service provider. Under the contract, MSA will provide an integrated package covering the whole scope of transport and logistics including instructions for packing, marking and shipping as well as the customs clearance work with regard to utilities, interconnecting and offsite materials and equipment for the RAPID project. 

DRB-HICOM Berhad Group Managing Director, YBhg. Brigadier General (K) Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr) Haji Mohd Khamil bin Jamil stated, “We are honoured by the confidence PETRONAS has shown in awarding our team this contract for the RAPID project. The signing of the contract is another milestone for MSA and further cements our commitment for the successful development of RAPID.” 

Chief Executive Officer of KLB, Rani Hisham Samsudin added, “With more than 30 years’ experience as a Multimodal Transport Operator (MTO) in Malaysia, MSA is committed to provide customers with high quality services and our strong business strategy will add value to customers’ businesses across the shipping, forwarding, transportation, warehousing, packaging spectrum.  Therefore, I believe MSA is the preferred company to handle the freight forwarding services in RAPID”, he stressed.

RAPID is PETRONAS’ largest green-field downstream undertaking in Malaysia, and along with its six major associated facilities, forms the Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC). The associated facilities are the Pengerang Co-generation Plant, Re-gasification Terminal 2, Air Separation Unit, Raw Water Supply Project to RAPID, the Pengerang Deepwater Terminal 2 as well as Central and Shared Utilities and Facilities. PIC is poised for its refinery start-up by early 2019.
